MEET THE RESIDENTS
Shivani Bhatnagar, MD
- Undergraduate degree: Georgia Institute of Technology
- Medical School: Ross University
I grew up all over the world but I call Atlanta, Georgia home! I attended Georgia Institute of Technology for undergrad where I majored in Materials Science and Engineering and Ross University for medical school. I enjoy traveling, dancing, soccer, and trying new cuisines.
I chose family medicine as my field of specialty because I truly enjoy every aspect of medicine. Family practitioners have the unique opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients, impact inpatient and outpatient settings, practice obstetrics, and do procedures! I love the idea of practicing the full spectrum of medicine especially in a rural setting in which there is an urgent need for more caregivers and health advocates. After residency I plan on practicing as a family physician rurally in both urgent care and clinical settings and spending time serving in areas of need internationally.
Fun fact: I've traveled to 47 countries and counting!
Eftu Boru, MD
- Undergraduate degree: University of Minnesota
- Medical School: Ross University
I chose family medicine because of the opportunity it offers to train and practice in all aspects of medicine. It also gives you the flexibility to create any career path you want in the future. Choosing family medicine will allow me to build relationships with my patients over time and offer a comprehensive understanding of their health. I want to specifically be involved in reducing health disparities by working in underserved population that lack quality heath care here in U.S and Africa.
My future career plan includes international medicine, women's health, and preventative medicine.
Fun fact: In my free time, I love to run, cook, and spend time with family and friends. I am excited to stay in the Midwest and to explore what the city of Milwaukee and Lakeland has to offer me.
Munish Kaushik, MD
- Undergraduate degree: University of Wisconsin, Madison
- Medical School: American University of the Caribbean
I've grown up in many different countries, but my family and I eventually found a home in the USA. I grew up in central Wisconsin, the people were so accepting and truly made me feel like a bona fide 'Sconnie.' I'm truly grateful to call this place my home!
After completion of my residency I wish to get more involved in community medicine. Fixing complex issues in the delivery of health care that prevent a patient from receiving the full benefit of a medical care system.
Fun fact: I enjoy scuba diving at night, I've done 5 dives already this way and it's truly an eerie experience that will test your resolve.
Jace Varkey, MD
- Undergraduate degree: University of South Carolina
- Medical School: St. George's University
I finished my undergraduate at University of South Carolina (Go Gamecocks!) and went to St. George's University on the island of Grenada for medical school.
There are quite a few things that lead me to choose a career in Family Medicine but most of all, I loved the idea that I could establish lifelong relationships with patients that would allow me to have a significant influence into their health care and be the best advocate for them. I also enjoyed the possibility of being a physician for entire families and hope to be a significant part in the events of their lives.
I hope to establish an outpatient practice focused on providing care to underserved communities.
Fun fact: I play the keyboard and have started picking up acoustic guitar. One day, I hope to have a mini music room/recording studio in my house.
