Health Advocacy, Narrative, and the Family Physician

(STORIES + DATA = CHANGE)

Family Physicians can be great advocates for our community and our patients. We have the opportunity to learn from our patient experiences and encounters and gain a full perspective on the effects of social policies, politics, and environmental regulations.  The future of family physicians lies in advocating for our patient population inside and outside of the clinic.  Each intern submits a health advocacy project during their community medicine rotation.  This may take many forms, including advocacy within our program and clinics, letters to political representatives, letters to the editor, or journal viewpoints.
